This paper aims to introduce a new language variety and a new term: digilect. Digilect is the lect of different text genres in digital communication. The author presents the newly introduced language variety (digilect) on the basis of the socio-linguistic literature and of earlier investigations on language use of digital communication. The author places the digilect in the system of language varieties. The main characteristics of the digilect are presented on the aspects of pragmatics, grammar, lexicology and typography. The rising of a new language variety is indicated by the way other varieties of language are being affected by it. This impact is demonstrated in this paper by examples from the spontaneous spoken language.
